David M. Brown is a Biologist/Zoologist with an understanding of the diversity and complexity of the flora and fauna of California and Africa.   He has 10 years of field experience in biological studies.   Mr. Brown has experience conducting botanical surveys in central and southern California.   He is currently a team member conducting floristic surveys of 62,000 acres of the Tejon Ranch in Kern and Los Angeles Counties.

Mr. Brown has mapped and described natural vegetation, assessing project-related impacts to natural habitats, and mapped the distributions and occurrences of special-status plant species.   He has conducted surveys in Kern, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Ventura Counties for a variety of projects.   Mr. Brown has conducted ecological research in the Great Basin desert ecosystem at Mono Lake and has gathered demographic data for long-term study of desert scrub communities.  

Prior to joining DMEC, Mr. Brown has worked as a field biologist for Signet & Associates, conducting wetland delineations in vernal pool and palustine wetland habitats, and assisted with designing and constructing wetland reserves.   Mr. Brown has also taught and been a lecturer in biology at UCLA, and served as an intersheip coordinator for the UCLA Center for Community Learning.   He also served as an environmental policy intern at Environment Now in Santa Monica.   As a post graduate researcher, Mr. Brown monitored and gathered data for the study of California native grass ecological restoration.   He has conducted field and genetic research on giraffe in Africa.   Mr. Brown has also gathered behavioral data and conducted census of the Lordotus pulchrisimus bee-fly.

Mr. Brown has earned a B.S. in Zoology in 1993 from the University of California at Davis (UCD) and a M.S. in Ecology from UCD in 1997.   Mr. Brown previously conducted genetics work on giraffes, and is actively working to conserve giraffe genetic diversity through the International Giraffe Working Group.   He has authored or coauthored several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals since 1995.
