This is a study of manhole covers from Italy, a peninsular country in the Mediterranean Region of Europe.

Manhole Covers of Italy

Presently, I have only photos of covers from Italy taken by Gail Endelman-Small.   Italy is a long and large peninsula on the south coast of Europe, extending into the Mediterranean Sea, with the Adriadic Sea on its north side.   It also includes several islands, including Sardinia and Sicily.

Italy is a member of the European Union, joining in 2004.   Italy has a very long and dyanmic political history, and was the center of the Roman Empire, and includes within its border the Vatican.   Italy became a nation-state in 1861, as the Kingdom of Italy.   It became a republic in 1946 after World War II.

Additional information about Italy can be found at Italy's Official Tourism site and at this Italy Info site.

Gail photographed manhole covers for me at several cities during her tour, including: Cataria, Cefalu, Pisa, The Vatican.   She also photographed covers on Comino Island, Palermo, and Sicily.
