Manhole Covers of Westlake Village, California

Westlake Village is a "planned-community" built around a manmade lake in 1966, which only became a formal city in 1981.   The City of Westlake Village has a population of 8,368, in 2000, consisted of 90% Whites, 6.1% Asians, and 4.6% Hispanics.   Westlake Village is known for its affluence and secluded character, or is that snobbery?   It is the home of many celebrities, including Rupert Murdock, the wealthy media baron.   Westlake Village is home to several gated communities and well-known golf courses.   U.S. Highway 101 (Ventura Freeway) is the main road through Westlake, with State Route 23 passing through to neighboring Thousand Oaks to the northwest and over the Santa Monica Mountains to the Malibu coast, both across the county line.   The per capita income in Malibu is $49,596 with a median family income of $109,310.   Not one resident is a member of the California Native Plant Society (as of 2001).   Additional information about Westlake Village can be found at Westlake Info or at the Official Westlake Village site.
