Manhole Covers of Beverly Hills, California

Beverly Hills is a small community that is very wealthy, with a population of 34,980 (2006), composed of 85.1% Whites (including 20% Iranian), 7.1% Asians, 1.8% Black, and 4.6% Hispanics.   State Route 2 is the only highway that passes through Beverly Hills.   Beverly Hills is located on the south slope of the Santa Monica Mountains.   Beverly Hills and neighboring West Hollywood are entirely surrounded by the City of Los Angeles.   The per capita income in Beverly Hills is $65,507 with a median family income of $102,611.   It was named after the rolling hills in Beverly, Massachusetts.   Beverly Hills was established on 22 October 1906 and incorporated as a city sometime after 1923 and before 1932.   Many of the neighborhoods in Beverly Hills are gated.   Nine residents of Beverly Hills are members of the California Native Plant Society (as of 2002), a very high percentage of the population compared to other California cities.   Additional information about Beverly Hills can be found at Beverly Hills Info, with more at the Official Beverly Hills City website.   Notice that at least three different manhole cover designs include the name, or initials of the city.   Beverly Hills clearly takes pride in labeling the gates to the dark underside of this wealthy community.
