Manhole Covers of Lathrop, San Joaquin County, California

Lathrop is a small city in San Joaquin County a few miles south of Stockton.   Lathrop was established as a railroad junctions (Lathrop Junction) in 1869, and incorporated in 1989.   Lathrop has a population of about 12,400.   The population is made up of 51% Whites, 8% Hispanic, and 13% Asian residents.   The median family income of Lathrop citizens is $57,319 and the per capita income is $16.032.   It is a bedroom community with some commercial/industrial employment opportunities, but is proposing to grow incredibly fast in the next few years.   Similar to other San Joaquin Valley communities, Lathrop's natural vegetation consists of grassland and vernal pool wetland complexes, most of which has been converted to urban or agricultural uses.   Interstate 5 and State Route 120 passes through Lathrop. Most of its working residents commute to the Stockton or Bay area.   It is on average at an elevation of 26 feet above sea level, so in 100 years, it will be under water as a result of global warming.   Additional information about Lathrop, California can be found at Lathrop Info and at a City of Lathrop site.
