Manhole Covers of Nevada City, California
Nevada City is a small city in the Sierra Nevada foothills at an elevation of 2,525 feet above sea level, in western Nevada County, at the junction of State Routes 49 and 20.   Nevada City has a population of 3,041 (2004 est.), composed of about 92% White and 3.5% Hispanic.   The median family income is $33,220 and the per capita income is $16,877.   Nearly all working people (92%) commute to work, with most of them commuting to the Sacramento metropolitan area from Nevada City.   Mining used to be the major industry supporting the Nevada City economy.   Now, the majority of employment is in the educational, health, and social services industry.   Nevada City natural vegetation is primarily Mixed Conifer Forest, dominated by Jeffery and Ponderosa Pines (Pinus jeffreyi and P. ponderosa, respectively), Incense-cedar (Calocedrus decurrens), White Fir (Abies concolor), and Black Oak (Quercus kelloggii).   Additional information about Nevada City can be obtained from the Nevada City Info site or from Nevada City Profile site.
The manhole cover below says, "Nevada City Martin Muir Co", with a few scattered stars; proof that this is Nevada City.
These two manhole covers were manufactured by Pinkerton Foundry of Lodi, California.
