Manhole Covers of Roseville, Placer County, California

Roseville is a medium-sized and growing railroad station city along Interstate 80 originally known as "Junction".   It is the largest city in Placer County.   It occurs at an average elevation of 160 feet above sea level.   Roseville has a population of 103,609 (2004 est.), composed of 79.8% White and 11.5% Hispanic residents.   Roseville as established in 1864, and finally incorporated in April 1909.

The median family income for Roseville residents is $65,929 and the per capita income is $27,021. The city was a major railroad center until the 1950s, when the demand for rail shipping began to decline.   It is now primarily a bedroom community to the Sacramento metropolatin area, with education, health, and social services providing the most local employment.   The natural vegetation around Roseville consists of California Annual Grassland scattered with vernal pools (a seasonal ephemeral wetland).   Additional information about Roseville can be found at Roseville Info or at the official Roseville City site, while historical information can be found at this Roseville History site.   Roseville is an excellent example of unchecked urban sprawl, occupying 30.5 square miles of land, with no end in sight.
