Uppsala is a very old city that once was the religious "capital" of Sweden, including a castle for the king (built by King Gustav Vasa) a canon shot way from the Archbishop of Sweden's Catholic cathedral, since 1164, later to become the Church of Sweden.   The cathedral was inaugurated in 1435.   Uppsala is the home of Uppsala University (founded in 1477), which is where Linnaeus studied, to become the father of Botany.   Uppsala has a population of 190,983 (as of 2010), making it the fourth largest city in Sweden.
Uppsala and Uppsala Lan is just north of Stockholm, in central eastern Sweden, with the Fyris (Fyrisån) River running north-south through the city.   Additional information about Uppsala can be found at Uppsala Info website, and at the Official Uppsala website (in English).
