Manhole Covers of Gorman, California

Gorman is a small community that is entirely privately owned, named after Pvt. James Gorman Sr., who was discharged from Fort Tejon a short distance to the north.   Gorman has a population of about 40, but no hard records are kept just for Gorman, which has only 15 homes and a few roadside businesses.   Interstate 5 (Golden State Freeway) is the main road through Gorman, located at the western end of the Tehachapi Mountains right on the San Andreas Fault.   Tejon Pass, 4,144 feet above sea level, is located just to the west (north on I-5).   Gorman is the gateway to the Hungry Valley State Recreational Area.   Gorman's claim to fame are the fabulous spring wildflower displays on the hills behind the town to the north.

I could only find one true manhole cover, a sewer cover, with the only other cover being a soil contamination monitoring well access hatch.   The per capita income in Gorman is $48,189 with a median family income of $107,330.   Additional information about Gorman can be found at Gorman Info, with more at at Gorman "Podunk" Info site.
