Manhole Covers of North San Juan, California

North San Juan is a small town in the Sierra Nevada foothills at an elevation of 2,102 feet above sea level, in western Nevada County, at the junction of State Route 49 north of Nevada City.   North San Juan has a population of 125, founded after gold was discovered on the ridge in 1853.   Mining used to be the major industry supporting North San Juan economy.   North San Juan natural vegetation is primarily Mixed Conifer Forest, dominated by Jeffery and Ponderosa Pines (Pinus jeffreyi and P. ponderosa, respectively), Incense-cedar (Calocedrus decurrens), White Fir (Abies concolor), and Black Oak (Quercus kelloggii).   Additional information about North San Juan can be obtained from the North San Juan Info site or from North San Juan Town site.
